I'm definitely getting it, as I have played both SO4 and 5, which are considered "the bad ones," and enjoyed my time with them to some degree. Personally I think the characters don't look too bad, and what I heard of the voice acting puts it well above SO 4's atrocious VA. If the conditions are right, they can scratch an itch for a sci-fi/fantasy JRPG that hardly any other developer can do. If Tri-Ace has enough budget, they can make a fun game with intricate systems, secrets, exploration, etc. This game looks like it still contains some issues with budget and strange character designs, yet it looks much more expansive than 5. SO 5 had barely a budget and did not reach the heights that any previous Star Ocean game had, and it is just a meh game overall, but it still scratches an itch, I guess. It's worth playing if you can stomach stupid characters. However, the "game" itself is actually quite good, with a lot of stuff that makes up a great JRPG. Star Ocean 4 was a mixed bag, where they shit the bed really hard in terms of the characters and some story elements. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown landed on consoles and PC last week, promising stunning. I consider these to be SO 1-3, though 3 has a controversial twist. Bandai Namco has embraced the Ace Combat 7 JPEG Dog memes, but this loveable hound has a sad real-life history. Click to shrink.Once upon a time, Star Ocean was mostly good.
